Masjid At-Thohir

Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Jakarta, a beacon of serenity and devotion stands tall: Masjid At-Thohir. Masjid At-Thohir isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to family, legacy, and faith. The mosque, inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in March 2022, was born from the vision of the late Mochamad Teddy Thohir. His sons, Boy Thohir and Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, brought this vision to life. The foundation stone was laid in 2018 by then-Vice President Jusuf Kalla. He recognized the mosque as a symbol of the Thohir family’s devotion and a lasting tribute to their father. Masjid At-Thohir’s architecture is a story in itself. Twenty-nine domes grace the rooftop, each holding a special significance. The largest dome symbolizes the patriarch, Teddy Thohir. Three surrounding domes represent his daughter and two sons, Vitaya, Boy, and Erick. The smaller domes represent his grandchildren. The foundation of the mosque, the very structure that supports these domes, symbolizes their mother, Edna Thohir. Four towering minarets reach towards the heavens, symbolizing the four points of the compass, broadcasting the call to prayer to all corners of the earth. Masjid At-Thohir’s gleaming white facade echoes its name, “At-Thohir,” meaning “pure” in Arabic. Inside, the main prayer hall is bathed in the soft glow of intricate lighting. The name of Allah, in beautiful calligraphy, adorns the imam’s area. The mosque can accommodate nearly 2,000 worshippers inside and almost 1,400 in the supporting multipurpose plaza facilities. Masjid At-Thohir is more than just bricks and mortar. It is a tribute to a family’s love, a testament to their faith, and a beacon of hope for the community.
