Beneath the clear Auckland sky sits Masjid At-Taqwa. It’s more than just a building. It’s a testament to the dedication of the Muslim community in Manukau. Masjid At-Taqwa stands at 58 Grayson Avenue in Manukau City Centre. The mosque serves as a vital hub for the Sunni Muslim community. It offers a place of worship, learning, and connection. Masjid At-Taqwa aims to provide facilities for Muslims to learn and practice Islam. The teachings are based on the Qur’an and the authentic Hadeeth. They follow the understanding of the Sahaabah and the Salaf. The mosque also strives to safeguard and improve the welfare of Muslims. It promotes understanding and cooperation between Muslims and non-Muslims. Masjid At-Taqwa isn’t just a place for prayer. It’s a vibrant community center. The mosque houses a part-time Islamic school for children called Madrasah at-Taqwa. It’s also connected to the New Zealand Islamic Information Centre (NZIIC). This is a national da’wah organization. A group of dedicated individuals oversees the operations of Masjid At-Taqwa. Shaykh Dr. Mohammad Anwar Sahib serves as the Chairman. Other members include Mohammed Rafiq, Mohammed Afiz, and Muntazeem Faiyaz Khan. The mosque has undertaken various projects over the years. This includes providing Eid gifts for refugee children and supporting the Fiji Cyclone Appeal. The building itself is quite impressive. It boasts a warehouse and office space, along with two bedrooms, a lounge, and a kitchen upstairs. With parking for 40 cars, the mosque is well-equipped to accommodate its community. Masjid At-Taqwa’s location is significant. Manukau City is a diverse area with a growing Muslim population. The mosque’s central location makes it easily accessible for those living and working in the city. Previously, many Muslims found it challenging to reach a mosque for daily prayers and Jumu’ah prayer. Masjid At-Taqwa has filled this need, providing a much-needed spiritual home for the community.
