Picture the towering minaret of Masjid At-Taqwa. It stands proudly in the heart of Kemanggisan a testament to faith and community. This magnificent mosque wasn’t always so grand.

Masjid At-Taqwa began humbly in 1976 as a small musala. It could only hold about 300 people. The generous contributions of tax office employees transformed it. They lived in the nearby Kemanggisan tax complex. Their kindness fueled the mosque’s remarkable growth.

In 1985 a complete renovation took place. The musala became the impressive Masjid At-Taqwa we see today. Its striking white walls contrast sharply with the vibrant blue-green mosaic dome. Lush trees and bright yellow flowers adorn its expansive grounds.

The mosque’s spacious design is truly impressive. It boasts a vast parking area that encircles half the structure. Masjid At-Taqwa covers an impressive 3000 square meters. It now comfortably accommodates 2000 worshippers.

Before its transformation many residents struggled to find a suitable place of worship. For large prayers like Tarawih they had to borrow a kindergarten’s hall. Imagine the challenges children faced learning and practicing their prayers.

Around 1972 or 1973 an Islamic school affiliated with Al-Azhar Kebayoran Baru was established. This provided religious education to the children of the tax complex. The community then decided to upgrade the musala. They wanted a proper mosque for the children to practice their faith.

Today Masjid At-Taqwa stands as a vibrant center for religious observance. High-ranking officials frequently attend services here. From tax officials to Ministers of Religion and Finance Masjid At-Taqwa is a vital part of Jakarta’s religious landscape. It’s managed by the Taqwa Bhakti foundation. The story of Masjid At-Taqwa is a story of community perseverance generosity and the enduring power of faith. It’s a story that continues to unfold within these hallowed walls.
