Some say Masjid Ar Ruhammah was built in 1812. Others claim 1822 or 1828. No one is quite sure. To find the truth, we sought out Ustaz Syamsudin. He is a descendant of the mosque’s founders.
Ustaz Syamsudin is about 72 years old. He is the fifth generation from the founders. He couldn’t pinpoint the exact year either. But he believes Masjid Ar Ruhammah dates back to the 15th century. That is somewhere between 1400 and 1500.
Imagine Jakarta then. During Dutch times, mosques were rare. Masjid Ar Ruhammah became a beacon of faith. It served Ciracas, Cipayung, Makassar, and surrounding areas.
Look closely at the two-story structure of Masjid Ar Ruhammah. Eight pillars support the building. They stand at the front, middle, and back.
