Stepping into the tranquil embrace of Masjid Andalusia Madrasah Pembangunan UIN Jakarta, one is transported back to 1972. The air hums with the echoes of aspirations, a desire for a beacon of Islamic education. This vision, shared by influential figures within the Department of Religious Affairs and IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, ignited the flame that would forge this institution. The Masjid Andalusia Madrasah Pembangunan UIN Jakarta stands as a testament to their dedication. In June 1972, coinciding with IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta’s third Lustrum, the foundation stone was laid. This marked the beginning of the madrasah’s physical manifestation. The ceremony was graced by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. H.A. Mukti Ali, and the Rector of IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah, solidifying the project’s significance. Just over a year later, on November 17, 1973, the completed madrasah building was officially handed over to IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The Madrasah Pembangunan UIN Jakarta opened its doors to its first students in 1974, starting with the Ibtidaiyah (elementary) level. A modest cohort of 58 students embarked on their educational journey, marking January 7, 1974, as the institution’s official “birthday.” Expansion followed, with the Tsanawiyah (middle school) level opening in 1977. Later, in 1991, an Ibtidaiyah branch was established in Pamulang. This collaboration with the Al Hidayah Foundation extended the madrasah’s reach and impact. Masjid Andalusia Madrasah Pembangunan UIN Jakarta was not just a school, but a living laboratory. Under the guidance of the Faculty of Tarbiyah, it served as a testing ground for innovative educational approaches. In 1978, it was designated a Pilot Project Model Madrasah by the Department of Religious Affairs. This recognition led to the development and testing of modular learning systems, further cementing the madrasah’s role as a pioneer in Islamic education. The institution’s evolution mirrored that of its parent institution. When IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta transformed into the State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in 2002, the madrasah followed suit, becoming Madrasah Pembangunan UIN Jakarta. Responding to community demand, the Aliyah (high school) level was reintroduced in the 2006/2007 academic year, achieving an “A” accreditation grade in 2009. In 2008, both the Ibtidaiyah and Tsanawiyah levels were designated as National Standard Madrasahs. More recently, the Madrasah Aliyah introduced a Language Class focused on TOEFL and IELTS proficiency. In 2016, it embraced its role as a Research Madrasah. Masjid Andalusia Madrasah Pembangunan UIN Jakarta continues to stand as a beacon of Islamic education. It has consistently adapted to the changing times while remaining true to its founding vision.
