Beneath Jakarta’s vibrant sky stands Masjid An Nuur. This beautiful mosque began its journey around 1992. It started small near its current location. Back then, it only accommodated about 100 people. Initially, it served for the five daily prayers. Friday prayers were not yet held there.

Fast forward to 2004. Masjid An Nuur held its first Friday prayer. This marked a significant step in its growth. In 2006, a new chapter began. Construction of the current Masjid An Nuur started.

Today, Masjid An Nuur thrives as a center for Islamic activities. Its dedication to spreading Islamic teachings is clear. The Mayor of East Jakarta recognized this. Partnering with the Indonesian Mosque Council DMI the mayor awarded Masjid An Nuur. It was named the second most prosperous mosque on October 1, 2010.

Masjid An Nuur incorporates European architectural elements. These blend seamlessly with Middle Eastern nuances. The result is a unique and harmonious design. The arched patterns on the windows reflect Dutch influences. This pays homage to the area’s historical buildings.

Inside, you’ll find contemplative nuances. Replicas of date palms add a calming atmosphere. Lamps are subtly placed among the leaves. They cast a gentle, contemplative glow.

Sixteen copper pillars stand tall. They are about 2.5 meters high. Each pillar is adorned with delicate star-shaped openings. These openings emit a soft yellow light. Despite their number, the pillars enhance the interior’s beauty.

The mihrab is particularly striking. The upper part of the minbar wall tapers elegantly. In the center, the word “Allah” is inscribed in Arabic script. It is set within an octagonal frame.

Calligraphy adorns the mihrab walls. The Arabic calligraphy features a square style. The calligraphy is set in square frames. Some frames protrude. Others are slightly recessed. A harmonious color palette enhances the visual appeal. Green, turquoise, white, cream, and gold combine beautifully.

The mosque spans two floors. The second floor serves mainly as a prayer space. It has minimal ornamentation. The exterior features a pyramid-shaped roof. It follows a tropical design similar to nearby buildings. A 39-meter-high tower stands proudly. It is topped with a crescent moon replica. From this tower, the call to prayer echoes five times each day.

Masjid An Nuur was inaugurated on April 27, 2012. It continues to be a beacon of faith. It is a community hub in East Jakarta. Its blend of architectural styles and commitment to Islamic values make it special. It’s a testament to Jakarta’s rich cultural tapestry.
