This mosque in Kemang Bangka Jakarta Selatan is more than just a place of worship. It’s a living testament to faith perseverance and history. Founded in 1818 by Guru Sinin a revered figure believed to be a wali from Banten Masjid Jami Al Barkah stands as one of the oldest mosques in the area.

Imagine the challenges faced by Guru Sinin. He built this mosque on swampy land. The construction required painstaking effort. Early materials were humble. Rumbia leaves and coconut tree trunks formed the initial structure. Obtaining permission was a complex process. Negotiations with religious leaders and the colonial Dutch government were necessary.

Over time the mosque underwent several renovations. In 1932 wooden planks replaced some materials. By 1985 the mosque had its ceramic tiles and eternit roof. Each change reflects the community’s dedication. Their contributions built this sacred space.

Behind the mosque lie several ancient graves. Guru Sinin himself rests here. He died in 1920. His son-in-law KH Ridi and grandson KH Naisin are also buried there. KH Naisin lived to the remarkable age of 132. Even today people visit Guru Sinin’s grave seeking blessings. Some even claim to have prayed alongside his spirit.
