Masjid Al – Ittihad

Have you heard of the octagonal star? Masjid Al-Ittihad in Jakarta doesn’t have a typical dome. Instead, it boasts a unique octagonal star-shaped roof. Masjid Al-Ittihad sits within the Tebet Mas Indah complex on Tebet Mas Indah 1st Street, in South Jakarta. Inaugurated on March 20, 1987, by then-Minister of Internal Affairs, H Soedharmono SH, Masjid Al-Ittihad occupies a substantial 6500m2 plot. The main building covers approximately 1900m2. This leaves ample space for parking and a tranquil park. Shady trees surround the mosque, creating a serene atmosphere. The main building has two floors. The upper floor serves as the main prayer room. The lower floor functions as a multipurpose room, often used for Friday prayers when the main prayer room overflows. During these packed Friday services, a large display downstairs mirrors the imam’s actions upstairs. The main prayer room is air-conditioned for added comfort during prayer. The multipurpose room also hosts wedding receptions and other celebrations. On Fridays, the mosque grounds transform into a bustling marketplace. Vendors sell everything from food and drinks to Islamic clothing and souvenirs. Masjid Al-Ittihad is more than just a place of worship. It is a community hub, home to Quran Education (TPA), a Cooperative Employees program, a Bureau of Hajj (KBIH), a Taklim Assembly Board (TMB), and Amil. There’s even a kindergarten, ISAM, and an elementary school, SD Isam, within the complex. Masjid Al-Ittihad truly embodies the spirit of community and faith.
