“A mosque built on the grounds of… a previous mosque?” a curious traveler pondered aloud outside Masjid Al-Ikhlas. Indeed, the current Masjid Al-Ikhlas in Jakarta holds echoes of another, relocated from Pedurenan in South Jakarta. This original mosque, a waqf (endowment) from Raibah and later Hj. Sitinah, embarked on a journey, eventually finding a new home in East Jakarta. The current Masjid Al-Ikhlas stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of faith and community. It sits on land with a rich history, documented by a waqf number (9), an Akta Ikrar dated September 16, 1996, and a Surat Ukur from December 30, 1999. The land, spanning 379 square meters, was endowed by H. Ahmad Bin Sarmili, with H. Royani Sarmili named as nadzir (trustee). Located on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan in Pulo Gadung, Masjid Al-Ikhlas embarked on its own journey. Its foundation stone was laid on March 9, 1996. It was officially inaugurated on June 22, 1996, by the then Camat (district head) of Ciracas, Endjang Abdullah. From its inception to the present day, Masjid Al-Ikhlas has undergone numerous transformations. Improvements in infrastructure, facilities, and activities have continuously enhanced its role as a vital community hub. The mosque’s leadership has also seen a succession of dedicated individuals. From Ustadz H. Ahmad Sanusi in 1996 to Ustadz Mukhtar, S. Pd.I, and currently Ustadz Suheli, S. Pd.I, each leader has contributed to the mosque’s growth and community impact. Masjid Al-Ikhlas strives to embody the principle of “Memakmurkan Masjid dan Dimakmurkan Masjid” – to enliven the mosque and be enlivened by it.
