Consider the sight of commuters streaming from Pasar Minggu Baru Station. Right in front of them stands the magnificent Masjid Al Hurriyyah. This mosque is more than just a place of worship. It is a symbol of resilience and community in the heart of Jakarta.

Masjid Al Hurriyyah began its journey in Kebon Sirih. In 2018, the MNC Group initiated its relocation and reconstruction. By 2020, the stunning new structure was complete. The entire project including land acquisition and construction cost Rp18.8 billion.

The mosque’s architect, Abimantra Pradhana, infused profound meaning into every aspect of its design. He wanted its architecture to be timeless and deeply connected to its surroundings. The elegant granite floors enhance the interior’s minimalist and spacious feel. Digital clocks and Quran displays adorn the walls.

The upper level provides a serene prayer space for women. Here you find provided mukena and prayer rugs. Wooden accents line the walls, creating a warm atmosphere. Large windows offer views of the bustling streets and the train station.

Masjid Al Hurriyah can accommodate 800 people. It is a hub for religious activities and community gatherings. These activities include Quran recitations and the traditional marawis music performances. Hasan, the mosque’s caretaker, explained that these events foster a strong sense of community.

Seen from the train station, Masjid Al Hurriyah’s gray, black, and white facade is striking. The high ceilings create a naturally cool and airy environment. There is no need for air conditioning. The design ensures comfort.

AGO Architects designed the Masjid Jami Al-Hurriyah with sustainability in mind. The mosque’s design integrates seamlessly with the climate. It reduces its energy consumption. Completed in 2020, the 745 square meter mosque serves as a welcoming space for the community.

The architects aimed to create a timeless design. They focused on climate, culture, and the habits of the people. The building uses passive design strategies. The mosque features three sloping roofs that create distinct zones. These zones include a welcoming porch, a terraced worship area, and the main prayer hall. Skylights at the roof peaks mark the different prayer times with natural light.

The integration of the roofs and minaret symbolizes the word “Allah”. Synthetic wood lattices act as curtains controlling heat and ensuring thermal comfort. This eliminates the need for air conditioning.

Stairs, terraces, and courtyards encourage public interaction. The mosque is a center for community activities. It offers accessible public spaces. Masjid Al Hurriyah stands as a beacon. It embodies Jakarta’s spirit of faith and togetherness.
