Beneath the soaring minarets of Masjid Al-Huda, a story unfolds. A story of resilience, faith, and community. Masjid Al-Huda wasn’t always the magnificent two-story structure you see today. Its journey began humbly in the 1950s, intertwined with the rise of the Muhammadiyah movement in Kampung Pulo. The very first incarnation of Masjid Al-Huda was a simple langgar, known as Langgar Pak Tua Naen or Langgar Pak Tua Kiran. This small prayer house served as a spiritual anchor for the early Muhammadiyah community. In 1949, this langgar transformed into Masjid Al-Barkah. The members of the Muhammadiyah community, with unwavering dedication, labored tirelessly to build this mosque. They carried sand from the Ciliwung River, their shoulders bearing the weight of their devotion. They mixed it with stone and lime, their sweat mingling with the building materials. Al-Barkah became a testament to their faith. However, their time at Al-Barkah was short-lived. Differences arose between the Muhammadiyah community and the Kaum Tua, also known as Ahlussunnah. These differences, rooted in varying interpretations of Islamic practices, eventually led to the Muhammadiyah community being asked to leave Al-Barkah. This happened during Ramadan, a time of deep spiritual reflection. Despite the heartbreak, the Muhammadiyah community chose peace over conflict. They sought a new place to worship, finding temporary refuge in a small musala. This musala, now Masjid Al Hikmah, became a stepping stone on their journey. Overcrowding during Ramadan led to the collapse of this small structure. Undeterred, the community rallied. They collected funds, working tirelessly to purchase land for a new mosque. In 1961, Muhammadiyah Ranting Rawadenok was established, with the community of Kampung Pulo joining its ranks. On this newly acquired land, a humble musala made of bamboo and rumbia took shape. This was the true predecessor to Masjid Al-Huda. This musala became the heart of the Muhammadiyah community. In 1965, a pivotal moment arrived. After a pengajian, a religious gathering, the community’s plight was shared with Kiai Abdul Halim, a respected figure. He advised them to officially declare the musala a mosque. The next day, the musala was consecrated as Masjid Al-Huda. The Masjid Al-Huda you stand before is the third iteration of this sacred space. It has grown and flourished, funded solely by the community and generous donors. It has become a beacon of faith, education, and community service. A testament to the enduring spirit of the Muhammadiyah community in Kampung Pulo.
