Perhaps you’ve noticed the serene structure before you. This is Masjid Al Hasanah Canggu Permai. It stands as a testament to community and faith in the heart of Bali.
Let’s step back in time to October 20 1989. A small group of 16 Muslim families gathered. They lived in what was then a developing housing complex. Their aim was simple. They wanted to create a space for worship. Initially, prayers and gatherings rotated among their homes.
Then in 1990 the housing complex officially opened with about 360 houses. A small prayer space was established. It was named Al-Hasanah. This marked a turning point for the community. The Al-Hasanah became their central point for worship.
As years passed the Muslim community grew significantly. This growth prompted several expansions of the Musolla. Finally in 2001 a momentous occasion occurred. The head of the Indonesian Ulema Council of Bali officially declared it Masjid Al-Hasanah. This recognized its importance to the region.
Local Muslim figures decided that October 20 1989 should be remembered. It was the day RWM Al-Hasanah was formed. Since then every October 20 is celebrated as the anniversary of RWM Al-Hasanah Canggu Permai.
Masjid Al Hasanah’s physical presence evolved alongside its community. The mosque initially occupied a small area of only 10 square meters. Over time it expanded into a three-story building. This includes a secretariat, ablution facilities, a guesthouse, a storage area, and even a school. Parking is also available. The land it occupies has grown too. It started with 8 are from the housing developer. Additional land was purchased or donated in 2012 and 2016, expanding the complex.
There was a renovation in 2019. The original shape of the Masjid Al Hasanah Canggu Permai had a dome before being modified into a 3-story building.
The mosque’s administration has seen several dedicated leaders. From Damun and Sukiyono in the early years to H. Muh. Yusri Nasution. Also H. Masrur Makmur and H. Joko Wiryatno who have each contributed to its growth.
In October 2024, Rukun Warga Muslim Al-Hasanah Br. Canggu Permai celebrated its 35th anniversary. The celebrations included special events. There was a Tabliq Akbar with Ustadz Riza Muhammad from Jakarta. A walk, charity for orphans, blood donation, and a bazaar were also parts of it.
The Masjid Al Hasanah Canggu Permai stands as a symbol. It embodies the spirit of unity, faith, and community in Bali. It is not just a place of worship. It is a testament to the enduring power of collective effort and devotion. As you continue your journey remember the story of this Masjid. Remember how a small group’s dream grew into a vibrant community hub.
