Ensconced within the Golkar Party headquarters stands Masjid Ainul Hikmah. This modern mosque offers a tranquil contrast to Jakarta’s frenetic pace. Masjid Ainul Hikmah translates to “eye of wisdom”. Construction finished in October 2021. Airlangga Hartarto the General Chair of Golkar inaugurated the mosque.
Notably absent are traditional Islamic symbols. There is no dome, minaret or crescent moon. Its unique design resembles a contemporary art museum. A calligraphy of the word Allah confirms its purpose.
Her Pramtama designed Masjid Ainul Hikmah. The design incorporates the banyan tree motif. The banyan tree is the symbol of the Golkar Party. The building’s form suggests the tree’s dense solid shape. Forty-four pillars surround the mosque representing the 44th Asmaul Husna. This is Al Mujib meaning The Almighty Who Grants Prayers. It is hoped that prayers said here will be answered.
The pillars narrow at the bottom. This design evokes the banyan’s aerial roots. This serves as a reminder that humans are created from earth. The pillars’ curves symbolize shelter and serenity. Sunlight casts dramatic shadows. The exterior features cream-colored marble. This color is derived from Golkar’s signature yellow. This color symbolizes tranquility and sincerity.
The mosque has two floors. The main floor houses the primary worship area. The second floor provides additional space. A one-meter diameter drum stands on the terrace. Upon entering one is greeted by the bedug.
The main floor covers 180 square meters. The mezzanine adds 40 square meters. The mosque can accommodate about 450 worshipers. An additional 200 people can be accommodated in the tiled plaza. The floors are covered in marble-patterned granite.
The mihrab showcases a striking lattice. This screen is adorned with Jepara-style carvings of floral patterns. Gilded calligraphy of the Kalimat Syahadat embellishes the top. The words Allah and Prophet Muhammad flank the declaration of faith. The hollow mimics the shape of a dome.
Inside the mihrab is a prayer rug for the imam. The mimbar resembles a miniature mosque. The mimbar is adorned with Jepara carvings. The background of the mihrab has circular calligraphy.
Digital clocks display prayer times. Crystal lamps hang from the second floor void. Calligraphy adorns the edges of the void. The walls display ten chosen Asmaul Husna in gold calligraphy. Air conditioning ensures comfort.
Masjid Ainul Hikmah is a place of reflection. Its design inspires contemplation. The mosque is a modern architectural gem. It blends symbolism with a serene atmosphere.
