“Surau Nee Soon Jalan Ulu Seletar” rings a bell, doesn’t it? That was the original name of this sacred space before us, Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim. Built in 1955, it started as a humble surau on Temporary Occupation License land. Imagine the early days. The first Imam, Hj Katsir, led prayers in a small kampung.

Fast forward to 1959. Ahmad Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for Sembawang Nee Soon, stepped in. He recognized the Surau’s importance. Ahmad Ibrahim helped upgrade the Surau’s facilities. It was a crucial step for the growing Muslim community.

Just two years later in 1961, big changes came. The Surau officially became a Masjid. The community decided to honor Ahmad Ibrahim for his contributions. They voted to rename it Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim. The first Friday prayers soon followed.

For decades, Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim has been a pillar. It has been improved to accommodate more people. Now, it welcomes around 1,000 congregators. Many improvements have enhanced the Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim over the years.

Today, Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim stands as a testament to community spirit. It shows dedicated service. It is a welcoming space. The nearest MRT station is Springleaf MRT station. Buses 167, 169, 860 and 980 also serve the mosque.

More than six decades have passed since its humble beginnings. Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim is still fondly known as Surau Nee Soon Jalan Ulu Seletar. It is a place of worship and learning. It also runs Madrasah At-Tahzibiah Al-Islamiah.

Recently, Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim welcomed a new term chairman. Mr Firdaus Suraidi will lead the community. The Masjid also uses a WhatsApp channel for updates. This ensures secure and efficient communication.

Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim also holds events. Volunteers are appreciated. There are meetings for volunteers and staff. They promote unity and collaboration. The Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim is thankful for its migrant worker community. They acknowledge their contributions.
