“Quiet please.” Within Jakarta’s sprawling cityscape lies Masjid Abu Bakar As-Sidiq. It stands not just as a building but as a testament to community spirit. Its story starts with a simple request. In 1976 Bangsar residents voiced their need for a local mosque.

Their appeal found favour. The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council approved the project November 25 1977. Local representatives met with YB Datuk Othman Abdullah two days later. Public donations poured in amounting to RM700000. The government stepped in incorporating it into the 3rd Malaysian 5-Year Plan.

Planning commenced in 1978. Construction finished in 1982 marking a new era for the community. The contractor received the site July 18 1980. The Mufti of the Federal Territories S.S. Datuk Sheikh Abdul Mohsein bin Haji Salleh approved the qibla direction August 24 1980. Ground levelling began in September 1980.

The government officially received the completed mosque March 29 1982. Sultan Ahmad Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar inaugurated it July 15 1982. The mosque is named after Abu Bakr Muhammad’s successor. It holds deep historical and religious significance.
