Fancy a court-side seat? Right here we have the Margon Arena. This multipurpose hall is more than just a building. It is a vibrant hub of sports and entertainment in Dresden.

The Margon Arena stands as Dresden’s second-largest sports and event hall. Only the EnergieVerbund Arena is bigger. This arena is named after Margon Brunnen GmbH since 2007. Margon sponsors many sports teams in the region.

Originally inaugurated in 1998, it was known as Mehrzweckhalle Bodenbacher Straße. The Margon Arena has a rich history of hosting diverse events. It can accommodate 3,000 spectators for sporting events. For concerts, it expands to hold up to 4,500 people.

Imagine the roar of the crowd. Picture the Dresden Titans battling it out on the basketball court. Or visualize the Dresdner SC volleyball team dominating the net. The HC Elbflorenz also played here until 2017. The Margon Arena has been home to many thrilling matches.

The arena’s design includes up to 16 dressing rooms. There are also shower facilities and restrooms. A dedicated press area supports media coverage. Concessions and a VIP area enhance the visitor experience. Parking is available for 300 vehicles.

In 2017, the city decided the Margon Arena needed a new roof. The project aimed for a simpler design. It removed the glazing and skylights. The estimated cost was around 1.9 million euros.

Further improvements were approved in 2020. The Dresden City Council planned a renovation and expansion. The arena will hold over 3,500 seats. This project is estimated to cost 32 million euros. Plans included addressing the leaky roof. However, a planned parking garage was cut to reduce costs.

In January 2021, the arena’s ownership transferred to the City of Dresden. Previously, the Stadtsportbund Dresden held the leasing contract. The Eigenbetrieb Sportstätten Dresden now manages the facility.

The Margon Arena continues to evolve. It adapts to meet the needs of Dresden’s sports and entertainment scene. The Margon Arena is easily accessible. Tram lines 1 and 2 stop right at the entrance.

The Margon Arena is more than just a building. It’s a place where athletes strive for victory. It is where fans come together. This arena embodies the spirit of Dresden’s sporting community. Whether for volleyball, basketball, or concerts, the Margon Arena is a key venue in Dresden.
