Here lies Marcel Bayon a life cut short. This unassuming plaque tells a powerful story. A story of bravery sacrifice and resistance. It marks the spot where Marcel Bayon a sergeant-chef in the French Forces of the Interior FFI met his tragic end on August 20 1944.

The Marcel Bayon Plaque is more than just a memorial. It is a testament to a man who dedicated his life to service. First in the military then in the police force. He served his country in Germany Algeria and Tunisia. He earned the Medal of Victory for his contributions in World War I. Later he became a Parisian policeman. He even scored 14.5 out of 20 on an exam for promotion to a higher rank. His superiors described him as excellent energetic and active. They even predicted he’d be a great leader.

But Marcel Bayon’s life wasn’t just about military and police work. He was a family man. He married twice. He held various jobs from an accounting clerk to a commercial employee. He even worked for a clock manufacturer and a jeweler. His life was one of constant change and adaptation.

Under the German occupation Marcel found his loyalty to France tested. His sense of duty clashed with the demands of the enemy. His wife later testified that fulfilling his duties under occupation became unbearable.

With the help of a doctor he created a fake medical file. This allowed him to be medically discharged from the police force in December 1942. He joined the Ypres resistance group in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés.

His dedication to the Resistance led him back to the front lines. He was killed while on duty at the Bonneuil bridge. His death was declared to be in the line of duty. The French government posthumously awarded him the honor “Mort pour la France” Dead for France. He was also recognized as a sergeant FFI.

The Marcel Bayon Plaque stands as a symbol of his courage. It’s a somber reminder of the sacrifices made during the liberation of France. It honors not just a man but a spirit of resistance a dedication to freedom. Take a moment to reflect on the life of Marcel Bayon. A man who dedicated his life to serving his country. A life interrupted too soon but never forgotten.
