What if these walls could talk? What stories would they tell us about the Maple Park United Methodist Church? We are standing before a relatively young congregation, established just sixty years ago in 1963. Imagine, a group of fifteen determined individuals, pioneers of their faith, came together with a vision. They laid the first stones of what would become this very church, the Maple Park United Methodist Church. Their initial gatherings were humble, hosted in the familiar settings of John Whistler and later Thomas Higgins Schools. However, their aspirations soared higher. They dreamt of a dedicated space, a sanctuary of their own. The dream began to materialize in 1965, with a momentous groundbreaking ceremony held right here on this very ground. On October 31st, 1966, their vision transformed into reality. The first of three planned buildings was complete, marking a new chapter for the Maple Park United Methodist Church. From those fifteen visionaries, the congregation blossomed to seventy families, their children filling the Sunday school classrooms. This, my friends, is a testament to the enduring power of faith and community. It’s incredible how much can change in a relatively short time, and the Maple Park United Methodist Church is a living testament to that.
