“Mama, look! A little wooden man!” a child’s voice echoed through the trees. This marks the start of the Manóösvény, a whimsical trail nestled at the foot of Anna Hill in Törökbálint. The Manóösvény, which translates to “Dwarf Path,” opened at the end of 2021. It’s a two-kilometer loop, perfect for a short family outing before lunch or in the early afternoon. The Manóösvény offers a captivating blend of nature and storytelling. Its theme revolves around Wass Albert’s “Erdők könyve: Bulámbuk” story. Bulámbuk, a large black deer, causes mischief, disrupting the lives of the forest’s inhabitants. Children become part of the narrative. They embark on a quest to save the forest by completing challenges at eleven stations along the path. These tasks, designed for children aged 4 to 10, are playful and engaging. They blend traditional elements with modern technology. QR codes placed at key locations throughout the Manóösvény enhance the interactive experience. Scanning these codes unveils songs by Gryllus Vilmos, each carefully selected to complement the specific task. Wooden sculptures of animals, cube puzzles, and labyrinth games further enrich the trail. Manófalva, a charming dwarf village crafted from wood, and the Tündérlak (Fairy House) add a touch of magic. The Tündérlak reportedly emits small LED lights at dusk, allowing evening visitors to catch a glimpse of the fairies. While the trail is recommended for children between 3 and 10, younger children can also find wonder in the whimsical surroundings. The investigative aspect is most engaging for older preschoolers. Even if your little ones aren’t ready for the challenges, they’ll be mesmerized by the enchanting atmosphere. The Manóösvény is easily accessible. Take bus 172 or 173 from Kelenföld metro station in Budapest and get off at Munkácsy Mihály utca. Walk along Alsóerdősor utca to the TTC football field. The trailhead, marked by a gate with “Meseerdő” (Fairy Forest), is a short walk from there. By car, you can also park on Alsóerdősor utca, but parking can be challenging.
