Hello everyone. I am excited to share the story of this place with you.
Malcolm X College’s West Side Learning Center stands as a beacon of educational opportunity. It is located at 4624 W. Madison Street in Chicago. The WSLC is more than just a building. It is a hub for community empowerment.
The West Side Learning Center offers various educational pathways. These include Adult Education such as High School Equivalency and English as a Second Language. Community and Continuing Education are also available. Early College-Dual Enrollment programs provide opportunities for younger students. Health Sciences programs like Community Health Worker, Medical Assisting, and Patient Care Technician are popular. The WSLC also offers Basic Nursing Assistant training.
But here is something you may not know. Malcolm X College’s West Side Learning Center also hosts an American Job Center. It is one of ten regional AJCs in The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership’s network. This center offers employment services. These services assist adult career seekers. It helps those starting a career and those looking for new opportunities.
In 2018, a $1.5 million development added biology labs. In November 2024, Malcolm X College broke ground on a new Community Center. This 3000-square-foot expansion will enhance the West Side Learning Center. It will include student meeting and recreational spaces. There will also be event space for businesses. The $17.5 million project signifies a major investment.
Shanbril Whooper is a student. She is studying to become a certified medical assistant. She says this campus allows her to balance family and school. It brings opportunities directly to her community.
Malcolm X College’s West Side Learning Center continues to evolve. It addresses the educational and career needs of the West Side community. The center is committed to equitable industry access. It supports community mobility through education. It truly shines as a hub of opportunity for all who walk through its doors.
