Maison Saint-Joseph’s story began in 1823. Sr Saint Jean de Fontbonne acquired the building then. She wanted to provide a place of rest for sisters. These sisters were either convalescing or aging. The Sisters of the Congregation of Saint Joseph of Lyon managed the house.

The Maison Saint-Joseph has always held importance in Vernaison. It has played a vital role in teaching. It aided in nursing care. The house supported populations in need.

In 1994, the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Lyon ceded its management. It went to the Association Maison Saint-Joseph. This was under the law of 01/07/1901. This year also marked the arrival of the first lay residents.

Since the 1990s, Maison Saint-Joseph has undergone successive phases of work. These projects extended until 2019. Today, the Maison Saint-Joseph comprises 80 individual rooms. It features a living unit. This unit welcomes residents with memory disorders. A PASA is also part of the facility. This is a support and adapted care center with 14 places.

The goal remains the same as the origin. To accompany residents daily with humanity. It continues until the end of their lives. Maison Saint-Joseph holds values passed down by the Congregation.
