In 1604, a marriage changed the destiny of Amboile. André Le Fèvre d’Ormesson married Anne Le Prévost, inheriting the lands and château of this quaint village. The Mairie d’Ormesson-sur-Marne stands as a testament to the family’s enduring legacy. The Le Fèvre d’Ormessons, originally from Épinay-sur-Seine, gradually shifted their focus to their newly acquired Amboile estate. The original Ormesson château was slowly abandoned, and Amboile became the family’s primary residence. The name “Ormesson-sur-Marne” wouldn’t officially grace the town until 1927. But the seeds were sown centuries earlier with this fateful union. The Mairie d’Ormesson-sur-Marne, in its current form, reflects this rich history. It serves as a vital hub for the community, echoing the influence the d’Ormesson family wielded for generations. One particularly striking figure is Olivier d’Ormesson, son of André and Anne. He served on the Chambre de Justice, the body tasked with trying Nicolas Fouquet for treason. Olivier bravely refused to use fabricated evidence against Fouquet, even though it meant incurring the wrath of King Louis XIV. His principled stand cost him the king’s favor. Yet, it solidified the family’s reputation for integrity. The d’Ormesson family’s influence expanded under Henri François de Paule d’Ormesson during the reign of Louis XV. As intendant of finances, he significantly enlarged the Amboile estate. He acquired half of the barony of La Queue-en-Brie and the seigneurie of Noiseau, bringing the family’s holdings to a staggering 800 hectares. The Mairie d’Ormesson-sur-Marne, a central figure in the modern town, carries the weight of these stories within its walls. It stands as a symbol of the town’s evolution, from a small village known as Amboile to the vibrant community it is today, all thanks to the d’Ormesson family.
