Overlooking the bustling maritime activity of the Minjiang River stands Luoxing Subdistrict. It’s more than just a suburb of Fuzhou. Luoxing holds a rich history, deeply intertwined with China’s maritime past. Luoxing Subdistrict wasn’t always known by this name. Originally, it was Mawei Town, established in February 1978. Later, in August 1982, it was upgraded to Mawei Subdistrict. The name Luoxing Subdistrict officially appeared on December 15, 1995. Imagine standing here in 2010, amidst a population of over 60,000 people, a slight decrease from the 60,446 residents in 2000. Luoxing Subdistrict isn’t a monolithic entity. It’s a vibrant tapestry woven from five distinct residential communities: Yanshan, Maxian, Luoxing, Xingang, and Peiying. Adding to this intricate pattern are five administrative villages: Shangqi, Qingzhou, Junzhu, Shuangfeng, and, another area named, Luoxing. This blend of urban and rural life creates a unique atmosphere. The spirit of Luoxing is perhaps best captured by its namesake, Luoxing Tower. Known internationally as the “China Tower,” it has guided countless ships into the Minjiang River. This tower, a beacon of hope and safety for sailors, is more than just a navigational aid. It’s a symbol of Luoxing’s enduring connection to the sea.
