Wasn’t Lundtofte Kirke built through sheer community spirit? Picture this: a small village in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen. The year is 1919. The people of Lundtofte dreamed of their own church. Not just any church. A beautiful whitewashed village church. This wasn’t a project funded by the crown. It was a local initiative. The land? A donation from Ørholm Grundejerforening. Even the cemetery land came from the managing director of Brede Textile Factory Edmund Daverkosen. Pastor N N Sværborg spearheaded the effort. Half the construction cost came from local contributions. Talk about community pride.

Lundtofte Kirke stands as a testament to that spirit. Harald Lønnborg-Jensen designed this charming church. Completed in 1921 it boasts whitewashed walls and a red tile roof. Inside you find a nave porch tower and a chapel. It seats approximately 200 people. It is a humble building but holds great significance for this community.

The altar table and pulpit are Neo-Baroque. They were designed by Lønnborg-Jensen himself. The altar piece though is a remarkable story. Jørn Glob a local painter and member of the Danish resistance painted it during World War II. He was wanted by the German occupying forces at the time. A risky undertaking. This altar piece is more than just art. It represents resilience and defiance.

The current organ is from Frobenius’ organ manufactory. It arrived in 1970. Lundtofte Kirke’s old organ? It now resides in Lyngby Church. The cemetery too holds a unique charm. Gudmund Nyeland Brandt designed it. A lapidarium showcases historic headstones. Notable burials include painter Mads Henriksen and film director Finn Henriksen. The grounds are a silent chronicle of Lundtofte’s history.

Lundtofte Kirke’s story goes beyond its walls. It appeared in several Danish films. Baronessen fra benzintanken Peters baby and In My Life all featured this church as a location. Lundtofte Kirke isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a living part of Danish cinema history. It’s a symbol of community dedication artistic resilience and enduring cinematic presence. This small church in Copenhagen speaks volumes. It whispers tales of faith community and history.
