The village structure has changed drastically since then. Around the middle of the interwar period, plots for villas began to be established. This happened in connection with Lundtofte. By 1930, Lundtofte and Hjortekær had 975 residents. In 1935, Lundtofte town had 330 residents. Hjortekær town had 605 residents. By 1940, the population had grown to 2124.
The Finger Plan of 1947 influenced Lundtofte’s development. It suggested concentrating urban development along railway lines. Lundtofte was expected to grow. It would eventually form a continuous suburban area. This area would include Brede and Virum. However, there was no planned merger with Kongens Lyngby to the south.
Lundtofte developed further due to its station on the Nærumbanen. The area was considered suitable for long-term urban development. This was partly because the area was prepared for construction. It had a sewage system. The urban development was not expected to conflict with conservation and outdoor interests. Most of the designated urban development area near Lundtofte was placed in the inner zone. This meant that construction could take place. It depended on whether the local council wanted it.
