Ready to explore a vital artery connecting Copenhagen? We are standing before Lundebro. Lundebro isn’t just a bridge. It’s a testament to modern engineering and thoughtful design.
Lundebro elegantly connects the river’s left bank to the island of Bölesholmarna. It also links to a smaller bridge. This creates a seamless path across the water. Lundebro unites pedestrian and cyclist trails. These trails run along both riverbanks. It also discreetly carries essential electrical and communication cables.
Completed in 2019, Lundebro was designed by Strasky, Husty a partneri. This bridge spans an impressive 179 meters. Its design prioritizes both functionality and aesthetics. The bridge’s deck has a variable width. It expands from 6.40 meters in the middle to 8.40 meters at the abutments. This subtle widening enhances the user experience.
Lundebro’s construction is remarkable. The footbridge features a prestressed concrete deck. This deck is suspended by two inclined cables. These cables stretch across three spans. The lengths are 28.80 meters, 187.00 meters, and 29.50 meters. The maximum sag of the cables reaches 20.90 meters. The bridge deck comprises 59 prefabricated concrete segments. Each segment is three meters long. Two monolithic end cross members complete the structure.
The bridge deck has a streamlined cross-section. It features 400 mm deep edge beams and a 140 mm thick deck slab. Floor beams reinforce each segment at the joints. The suspension cables consist of 2×55 mono-strands. These strands are grouted in steel pipes with a 273 mm diameter. The deck is securely fixed to the suspension cables. This connection is located in the middle of the bridge.
The pylons supporting Lundebro are equally striking. These A-shaped structures stand 30.25 meters tall. They are assembled from precast concrete segments. These segments are match-cast for precision. The pylon legs are inclined both longitudinally and transversely. Anchor boxes at the pylon tops connect the cables to the legs. The tensile force from the cables transfers to steel anchor blocks. These blocks are anchored in the footing slabs.
At the abutments, the deck rests on multi-directional bearings. Guide bearings in the bridge axis manage expansion movements. Shock-transition units minimize longitudinal movement. These units work with the fixed cable connection. Together, they ensure aerodynamic stability. This keeps the bridge steady.
Lundebro features a simple yet elegant railing. The railing includes a handrail. Inclined posts support it. Rope fills the spaces between the posts. LED lights illuminate the walkway. The lights are integrated into the handrails.
The architects aimed to create a slender and transparent structure. They wanted it to harmonize with the landscape. The bridge’s form echoes the natural curves of the surroundings. It feels light and open. Its elements are designed to be human-scaled. Lundebro doesn’t overpower its setting. Instead, it enhances the beautiful countryside. It is comfortable for pedestrians and cyclists. The movement caused by people or wind is minimized.
Lundebro exemplifies how infrastructure can be both functional and beautiful. It invites you to pause and appreciate the blend of engineering and art. As you cross Lundebro, consider the thought and care that went into its creation. It’s more than just a crossing. It’s an integral part of Copenhagen’s landscape. It is a testament to thoughtful design.
