Can you imagine a town built on Scottish dreams? Luis Guillón, also known as “The City of Gardens,” started as just that. In 1825, a group of 211 Scottish settlers arrived, hoping to cultivate the land. They were granted permission by Bernardino Rivadavia’s government. This pioneering spirit is woven into the fabric of Luis Guillón. The town initially belonged to the Lomas de Zamora district. Later, in 1913, it became part of the newly created Esteban Echeverría district. Now, as you stand in Luis Guillón, picture the transformation from a small settlement to the bustling town it is today. The official founding date of Luis Guillón is November 6, 1926. This marks the establishment of the train station, originally called “Parada km 23,540.” This station, later renamed Luis Guillón, became a vital link connecting the town to Buenos Aires, fostering trade and growth. The arrival of the railway cemented the town’s place in the expanding network of the Buenos Aires province. Today, Luis Guillón still boasts excellent connections. It provides easy access to major routes like the 25 de Mayo and Ricchieri highways, as well as Provincial Route 4, also known as Camino de Cintura. Luis Guillón is bordered by several other towns: Monte Grande to the west, Malvinas Argentinas to the south, Llavallol and Lomas de Zamora to the east, and 9 de Abril to the north. This location in the southwestern part of Greater Buenos Aires places Luis Guillón within a dynamic and interconnected urban landscape. As you stroll through Luis Guillón, notice the abundance of green spaces that inspired its nickname, “The City of Gardens.” Parks and plazas offer tranquil escapes from the urban bustle. These green lungs are a testament to the town’s commitment to preserving a harmonious balance between urban development and natural beauty, a legacy from those first Scottish settlers who sought to cultivate the land.
