Sculpted in the image of a death mask, Ludwig van Beethoven stands in bronze. He resides near the Palace of Bellas Artes in Mexico City. This monument to Ludwig van Beethoven commemorates the centenary of his ninth symphony. It was a gift from the German colony to Mexico City. The sculptor, Goldenbech, created this representation in 1921, basing it on Beethoven’s death mask. The Beethoven Monument isn’t the only homage to the composer in Mexico. A bust of Beethoven also exists in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, in a neighborhood called “Electricistas”, on a street named, fittingly, Beethoven Street. The monument in Mexico City, however, stands as a grand tribute to the composer, a testament to his musical genius.
