Did you know Loyola Hall once housed Jesuit priests? Loyola Hall is a significant building on the Seattle University campus. It stands as a testament to the university’s history.

Let’s explore the story of Loyola Hall. This approximately 43600-square-foot structure was constructed between 1954 and 1955. Loyola Hall was officially dedicated in 1956. It underwent renovation in 1994. Originally, Loyola Hall served as housing for Jesuit priests.

Today, Loyola Hall houses the College of Education. It also hosts Middle College High School. You’ll also find the Office of Institutional Equity here. The Disabilities Services office is located here as well. This has been the case since 2016.

Back in 1956, daily mass began being served at Loyola Hall. Imagine the quiet prayers echoing through these halls. On a turbulent day in May 1972, a bomb explosion damaged the building’s windows. The event shook the campus.

In 2008, the James Ciscoe Morris Biodiversity Garden was dedicated outside Loyola Hall. This garden commemorates Morris’ sustainable gardening program. It was his favorite spot on campus.

Loyola Hall has witnessed many changes over the years. It started as a Jesuit housing facility. It then evolved into an academic and administrative hub. Loyola Hall continues to play a vital role in the Seattle University community. Its walls hold stories of faith, education and resilience. The building stands as a reminder of the university’s commitment to social justice and inclusivity.
