Lou Neff Point, this promontory jutting out where Barton Creek flows into Lady Bird Lake, offers unparalleled views of downtown Austin. But it wasn’t always this picturesque. Back in the late 1960s and early 70s, Lou Neff, a passionate advocate for Austin’s natural beauty, joined forces with Lady Bird Johnson. Together, they served on the Town Lake Beautification Committee, working tirelessly to transform the area. Lou Neff was a force of nature herself. A former president of the Austin Junior League, a member of countless organizations, she poured her energy into making Austin a better place. Her dedication was recognized in 1971 when the Austin American Statesman named her an Outstanding Woman in Austin. Sadly, she passed away just three years later at the young age of 44. But her legacy lives on. In 1975, this very spot was named Lou Neff Point in her honor, a tribute to her unwavering commitment to Austin’s charm. Take a moment to soak in the view.
