Here, in the heart of East London, stands a testament to a bygone era. The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, a place intertwined with industry, immigration, and resilient communities. Its modern form was forged in 1965, a union of the former boroughs of Barking and Dagenham. Barking, a once bustling fishing port, transformed into a center of industry with the arrival of the railway in the 19th century. Dagenham, on the other hand, was a rural parish until the 1920s, when the London County Council built the enormous Becontree Estate, providing housing for thousands fleeing the slums of the East End. This mass development also attracted industries, notably, the Ford Motor Company, which established its vast plant in Dagenham in 1931.
