First held in 1919 the Lokal ng Calumpang Iglesia ni Cristo holds a special place in Philippine history. It’s one of the oldest INC locales. The first service wasn’t in a grand building. It was in the home of Brother Luis Senga on J Rizal Street Calumpang Marikina. Brother Felix Y Manalo led that very first worship.
Imagine the scene. A simple home filled with the fervent faith of early INC members. Their humble beginnings contrasted sharply with the church’s later growth. From Brother Senga’s home services moved to Brother Pedro Marcelo’s. This continued until 1938. Then it shifted again to Brother Esteban Nepomuceno’s home. This lasted until 1942. After that the services were held at Brother Gaudencio Nepomuceno’s home. This was from 1942 to 1950. Finally it moved to Brother Felimon Tiamzon’s home on General Santos Street. This was only for a short while from 1950 to 1951.
Despite the hardships a semi-concrete building was constructed. The first service in this humble structure was in December 1951. It could only seat about 50 people. Brother Benito Simbillo Sr oversaw its dedication. The Lokal ng Calumpang Iglesia ni Cristo grew. In 1988 Santolan separated becoming its own locale. Then in 1994 the Calumpang locale bought land for a new building. Today the Lokal ng Calumpang Iglesia ni Cristo stands as a testament to enduring faith. It has a solid concrete building on M A Roxas Street Marikina City. It continues to serve its community. The services are held on Thursday and Sunday. The Lokal ng Calumpang Iglesia ni Cristo stands as a powerful symbol. It shows the growth of the INC from humble beginnings to a significant presence. It is a place of worship and community.
