A phoenix rising from the ashes that’s Little Village Lawndale High School. This isn’t just a school. It’s a testament to community resilience. It stands as a symbol of hope built on the sacrifices of parents and grandparents.

Little Village Lawndale High School opened in 2005. It wasn’t easy. For 19 days in 2001 fourteen parents and grandparents went on a hunger strike. They demanded the high school promised to their community. Their hunger strike created enough public pressure. The Chicago Public Schools finally agreed to fund the project.

The school is more than bricks and mortar. It’s four autonomous schools under one roof. Each school has a unique focus. There’s the Multicultural Academy. The Infinity Math Science and Technology High School prepares students for tech jobs. The World Language High School promotes bilingualism and biculturalism. Finally the Social Justice High School emphasizes social justice. This unique structure reflects the community’s input in the school’s design. Parent surveys shaped the curriculum and the school’s overall design.

Little Village Lawndale High School is also home to ten sports teams. There’s track basketball cross country soccer swimming volleyball wrestling and softball. Both boys and girls can participate. Football and baseball are boys-only sports. The students’ hard work and dedication makes for lively school spirit.

This school is more than an educational institution. It’s a beacon of hope. It proves that community action can bring about significant change. The building itself is a monument to the perseverance of the Little Village community. It shows the power of collective effort and the importance of fighting for what you believe in. The Little Village Lawndale High School stands tall a testament to determination and community spirit.
