Envisage a vibrant hub of student life, a place where dreams take flight. This, my friends, is Little Hall. Little Hall stands as a testament to the generosity of philanthropists Paul Little and Jane Hansen. Their remarkable $30 million gift to the University of Melbourne brought this world-class hall of residence to life. Little Hall is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a symbol of opportunity, a beacon of hope for aspiring scholars. Little Hall officially opened its doors in 2021. The Governor of Victoria, Linda Dessau, presided over the ceremony. Located in Lincoln Square, Little Hall is a mere 300 meters from the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus. The acclaimed architects Hayball designed Little Hall. The building spans over 20,200 square meters and rises 15 levels. It caters to every student’s needs. Little Hall boasts 669 ensuite bedrooms, providing comfort and privacy. There are multi-purpose study rooms for collaborative learning and a cinema for entertainment. A gymnasium promotes physical well-being, while a rooftop terrace garden offers a tranquil escape. A café fuels students with caffeine and camaraderie, and Wi-Fi connects them to the world. Little Hall also houses the recipients of the Hansen Scholarship Program. This program supports 20 students annually. These scholars receive free accommodation, support for living costs, and access to a tailored mentoring and development program. Little Hall is the cornerstone of this unique scholarship program, setting it apart from others worldwide. Paul Little envisioned Little Hall as a welcoming space. He aimed to create a unique environment where students could feel at home while pursuing their academic passions. Jane Hansen saw Little Hall as a place to nurture future leaders. She wanted to ensure students from all walks of life had the opportunities to reach their full potential. Little Hall is a place where dreams are nurtured, where potential is unleashed, and where futures are shaped. It’s a testament to the transformative power of education and the enduring impact of philanthropy. Little Hall is not just a hall of residence, it’s a community, a launchpad, and a legacy.
