“Lost in thought, I wonder about the history of LISN-Bâtiment 508?” a student muttered, staring at the building. LISN-Bâtiment 508 stands here on Rue John Von Neumann in Orsay. It’s part of the larger Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Sciences du Numérique (LISN). This research facility delves into the heart of digital sciences. The LISN is a joint endeavor. It combines the expertise of CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay, INRIA, and CentraleSupélec. Inside LISN-Bâtiment 508 and other LISN buildings, five departments and seventeen research teams work on diverse topics. They explore artificial intelligence, data science, and human-computer interaction. Their research extends to natural language processing, mechanics, energetics, and bioinformatics. Getting to LISN-Bâtiment 508 is quite straightforward. From the Guichet RER B station, you can even walk, though be prepared for a steep incline. Multiple bus routes connect LISN to various RER B stations as well. The campus is becoming increasingly bike-friendly, especially from Massy-Palaiseau station and the west of the Plateau de Saclay. Bike racks are available outside all buildings upon arrival. Underneath the Plaine site, secure garages accessible with LISN staff badges offer additional bike storage. You can even find electric bike rental stations near Orsay and Guichet stations. Guichet is the recommended station. The climb from there is less steep than from Orsay along the RN118. If you’re driving, both Waze and Google Maps recognize LISN. Just make sure to specify the correct site, Belvédère or Plaine, when entering the lab’s name. LISN-Bâtiment 508 stands as a testament to the collaborative power of interdisciplinary research, pushing the boundaries of digital sciences.
