The idea of a temple in Lisbon was a dream for many years. Finally in October 2010 President Thomas S. Monson announced the construction of the Lisbon Portugal Temple. A dream realized. It was a momentous occasion. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in December 2015. It marked another vital step. The temple’s unique design reflects Portugal’s rich Moorish heritage. The temple’s exterior is clad in Portuguese Moleanos limestone. Locally quarried. The stone is a tribute to Portugal itself.
