“A speech therapist to a King? Impossible you say? Look closely at this Lionel Logue Plaque. It’s right here on Harley Street number 146. This unassuming plaque tells a remarkable story. A story of a man Lionel Logue an Australian speech therapist who practiced here from 1926 to 1952. He treated many patients but one stands out King George VI. The King suffered from a debilitating stammer. Logue helped him overcome it. Their work is famously depicted in the movie The King’s Speech. The plaque itself is a testament to Logue’s dedication. It was unveiled on May 19 2011 by Mark Logue Lionel’s grandson. Imagine the countless conversations that took place within these walls. The hushed tones of anxious patients. The determined voice of Logue guiding them. Then the triumphant pronouncements of progress. This plaque isn’t just a marker on a building. It is a symbol of perseverance and the power of human connection. Lionel Logue’s legacy lives on not only in the history books but also here on this very spot. He worked tirelessly until 1952. Just a year after King George VI died in 1952 Logue also passed away. This plaque serves as a permanent reminder of his important work and his impact on a king and on history itself.”
