Why was Lincoln Hall Middle School considered controversial? It all started back in 1938. Lincoln Hall Middle School was the only school in the newly established Lincolnwood School District 74.
The creation of the district itself was a point of contention. Some residents questioned the need for a separate district in such a small community. Others argued that it would lead to higher taxes. Despite initial controversy, Lincoln Hall Middle School thrived. It became a cornerstone of the community. It served students in grades 6-8 for decades.
Then, in 2012, another controversy engulfed the school district, this time centered on finances. A group of concerned residents used the Freedom of Information Act to uncover questionable spending by school board members and then-Superintendent Mark Klaisner. The scandal, which involved lavish trips, excessive cellphone bills, and personal use of district vehicles, made headlines and shook the community’s trust. The school board eventually extended Klaisner’s contract, but the controversy led to the resignation of School Board President Amy Frankel and the appointment of an interim superintendent. Lincoln Hall Middle School has weathered these storms. It remains a vital part of the Lincolnwood community. Its history is a reminder that even institutions dedicated to education are not immune to controversy and challenges.
