Lillydale Lake Park spans over 100 hectares. It provides extensive recreational facilities for everyone. The lake itself covers 28 hectares. A 440-metre-long dam wall holds it all together.
But why was Lillydale Lake created? Areas of Lilydale were low-lying. They were often susceptible to flooding from the Olinda Creek. The local council proposed a park in 1969 but lacked funds. Following floods in September 1984, the idea resurfaced. Construction began in 1988. Lillydale Lake officially opened on July 7, 1990.
You will find the ruins of Cashin’s flour mill near the dam wall’s northern end. This mill dates back to the 1850s. It is a visible reminder of the area’s history.
Today, Lillydale Lake offers more than just flood prevention. Over 10 kilometers of shared trails wind around the lake. These trails are perfect for walking, running, or cycling. Many locals use them for fitness.
Notice the monster playground. It is a hit with kids. The park also has toilets, barbecues, and picnic areas. It is designed to accommodate all ages.
Non-powered boating is allowed on Lillydale Lake. A boat launching ramp makes it easy to get onto the water.
Do you have a furry friend? Lillydale Lake has two designated off-leash dog areas. Your dogs can run and play freely in these spots. Dogs must be on a lead in all other park areas.
Fishing is another popular activity here. Find a spot on the jetty and cast your line.
The name Lillydale Lake retains the early spelling of the former Lillydale Shire. The spelling with two Ls was allegedly an error that was never corrected.
