Mantra. A name synonymous with intricate detail and larger-than-life murals of butterflies. Here, on Frederiksgade, we stand before his creation, “Life on the Edge”. This mural isn’t just a visual spectacle. It’s a powerful statement, inspired by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal #10: Reduced inequalities. The “Life on the Edge” mural is a triptych, a three-part artwork designed to challenge how we view the balance between humanity and nature. Look closely. On one side, a multitude of dead butterflies represent what we’ve lost. On the other, a lone butterfly symbolizes what remains. It’s a stark reminder of the impact of human actions on the natural world. However, there’s a message of hope. The artist, Youri Cansell, wants us to remember that despite the losses, life still outweighs death. The scales, representing humanity, remind us that we hold the key to change. We have the power to tip the scales back in favor of balance.
