In 1975, Liceo 32 Guayabo began as an annex of the older Liceo Rodó. Originally located on Río Branco Street, between Mercedes and Colonia, this annex soon evolved. It became the independent Liceo 32 Guayabo. Let’s step back to 1979. Liceo 32 Guayabo moved to its current location on Carlos Roxlo 1611 in the Cordón neighborhood of Montevideo. Interestingly, the building was initially shared with Escuela N° 43. Liceo 32 Guayabo serves students from Cordón, Centro, La Comercial, and Aguada. A significant milestone occurred in 1996 at Liceo 32 Guayabo. The first bilingual program for deaf and hard-of-hearing students was established. This innovative program was later named the “Cristina Cabrera Experience”. It honored the director who spearheaded this groundbreaking initiative for its first ten years. This program at Liceo 32 Guayabo was unprecedented in Uruguay and Latin America within public education.
