It’s a charming park, situated on the shores of Lake Michigan. Leone Beach Park is truly a special place, rich in history. In 1919, the city of Chicago bought the land from the Department of Water. Before that, in 1907, the city bought the land and an old pumping station from the Rogers Park Water Company. The Chicago Park District then leased the property, and in 1966, the park was named in honor of Sam Leone, a dedicated Park District employee and lifeguard who devoted many years to the Rogers Park neighborhood. The old pumping station, built in 1900, was repurposed into a fieldhouse. Now, park visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, from swimming to kayaking. The sandy beach is the perfect spot for relaxing in the sun, and the playground is sure to delight children. Leone Beach Park also provides a kayak launch for water sports enthusiasts.
