Let’s step back to July 5, 2023. Leng Kwang Baptist Church geared up for its first Jesus Club meeting. This was after months of preparation. Augustus, a pastor at Leng Kwang Baptist Church, was in charge. He shared the journey towards starting this ministry.
Augustus always had a heart for persons with intellectual disabilities. He wondered if more could be done for them. He learned about Jesus Club through Hannah at Singapore Bible College. A visit to Bethesda Frankel Estate Church’s Jesus Club inspired him. He realized church members worked with persons with intellectual disabilities. This led to exploring a ministry at Leng Kwang Baptist Church.
Jesus Club Singapore supports churches starting ministries for adults with intellectual disabilities. It intentionally helped Leng Kwang Baptist Church. They spoke at the church. They allowed involvement with JC@BFEC. This gave inexperienced members confidence. They knew what to expect and moved forward intentionally.
Many Leng Kwang Baptist Church members visited JC@BFEC. One shared she teared with joy during worship. The singing and clapping were not in sync. But it impacted her deeply. She realized worship was more than music. The joy and enthusiasm of Jesus Club members taught her this. The heart of worship was beyond musicality. Members were sincere in relating to one another. It was encouraging to see them using their gifts. They served in the club.
Leng Kwang Baptist Church welcomes help serving individuals with intellectual disabilities. They looked for people to lead games. They needed support for live talks. Anyone could join to see how they might contribute in small ways.
