Stepping into the vibrant atmosphere of Leisure Park Kallang, can you sense the echoes of Singapore’s first purpose-built entertainment center? Leisure Park Kallang opened its doors in 1982. It wasn’t just a mall. It was a groundbreaking entertainment hub. Imagine the excitement as people flocked to the three-screen cinema, the ice-skating rink, and the bowling alley. Leisure Park Kallang was strategically located next to the National Stadium. It became the go-to destination for crowds after major sporting events. Its popularity soared throughout the 1990s. A minor renovation in 1999 aimed to keep the buzz alive. But the mall’s design, both inside and out, began to show its age. The construction of the Stadium MRT station in 2002 further impacted the mall’s foot traffic. Businesses struggled, and in 2003, Leisure Park Kallang was sold to Jack Investments. The mall closed its doors in 2004 for a much-needed makeover. The grand reopening in 2007 marked a new chapter for Leisure Park Kallang. Familiar names like Filmgarde Cineplex, Kallang Ice World, Koufu food court, Cold Storage supermarket, and Kallang Bowl returned. In 2014, the mall dedicated its fourth level to voluntary welfare organizations. Leisure Park Kallang had evolved, but its core purpose remained: to provide entertainment and leisure for all. Today, Leisure Park Kallang stands as a testament to Singapore’s ever-evolving landscape. It reminds us of the country’s commitment to leisure and recreation.
