LVB’s story began in 1872. It started with horse-drawn trams. Imagine the clip-clop of hooves echoing through Leipzig’s streets. In those days, riding the tram was a window to a booming city. Fast forward to 1896. The Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe embraced electricity. This forward step sparked a revolution. It set the stage for the modern transport system we know today.
The Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe has seen many changes. In 1917, the Leipziger Elektrische Straßenbahn merged with the Große Leipziger Straßenbahn. This fusion formed a stronger entity. In 1938, the company was officially named Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe. This renaming marked a new era.

LVB celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022. The European Tram Drivers’ Championships were held in Leipzig. Participants came from twenty nations.
