“Did you hear that roar?” our guide whispered with a mischievous grin. “Don’t worry, it’s just the Leão Sculpture showing off!” Right before us, the Leão Sculpture, a majestic stone lion, seemed to vibrate with a suppressed energy. This isn’t just any lion. This lion, perched proudly on its pedestal, has been a silent observer to Lisbon’s history. The Leão Sculpture was originally unveiled in 1929, but time and the elements took their toll. Imagine the stories this lion could tell! Decades later, on June 21, 2017, the Leão Sculpture was given a new lease on life. It was carefully restored and unveiled once more, standing as a symbol of Lisbon’s enduring spirit in the bustling Rotunda Visconde de Alvalade.
