The Le Bus Vertical Sculpture has quite a history. It was first installed at the Cité des Arts de la Rue. That was between September 2002 and August 2007. During that time, it became an architectural landmark in the neighborhood. People could see it from the northern highway when arriving in Marseille.
More than just a visual marker, the Le Bus Vertical Sculpture helped the Cité des Arts de la Rue gain recognition. Its appeal extended beyond its regular audience. In 2007, the bus traveled to Paris. It was exhibited on the lawns of Bercy during the Nuits Blanches.
But the story of the Le Bus Vertical Sculpture doesn’t end there. The bus eventually returned to the Cité. It was re-erected after architectural work. This was done in partnership with the Fondation CARI.
The new permanent installation of the bus totem took place on September 17, 2009. This coincided with the European Heritage Days and the 40th anniversary of the Arnavant zone. Générik Vapeur, a resident of the Cité des Arts de la Rue, carried out the installation.
