Nestled in the heart of Quito, the Lds Church stands as a testament to faith and perseverance. Did you know that the first Mormon missionaries arrived in Ecuador in 1965? Elder Spencer W. Kimball believed that sharing the Book of Mormon with the descendants of the Andean Indians would fulfill a divine promise. He visited Ecuador several times, preaching and nurturing the growing community. The Lds Church quickly established a strong presence in Quito, Guayaquil, and among the indigenous Otavalans. The first branch meeting in Otavalo was held in March 1966, with just a handful of attendees. Within a year, it grew to over 18 members. The Lds Church in Ecuador continued to flourish. In 1978, the first stake was organized. The Guayaquil Ecuador Temple, a beacon of faith, was dedicated in 1999. By then, the Lds Church in Ecuador boasted approximately 150,000 members. The Quito Ecuador Temple, dedicated in 2022, further solidified the church’s presence in the country. The Lds Church in Ecuador has become a vibrant part of the community. They have offered aid and shelter during natural disasters. They have over 300 congregations across the country, serving in major cities and rural areas. The Lds Church in Quito continues to grow, a symbol of faith and community in the heart of Ecuador.
