At the heart of Chicago’s West Side stands Lawndale Mennonite Church. This isn’t just any church. Lawndale Mennonite Church emerged from the vision of a dedicated coach named Wayne Gordon. In 1975, Wayne began teaching and coaching at Farragut High School in Lawndale. Seeing the need for faith and community, he started a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bible study. This small group, with a passion for their neighborhood, planted the seed for Lawndale Mennonite Church. In March 1978, that seed blossomed into a reality. What began in a humble storefront, fueled by the enthusiasm of high school students, has grown into a beacon of hope. Lawndale Mennonite Church embodies a profound commitment to its community.
