The Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church was established in 1951. This was a time when many Latvians were coming to the United States after World War II as displaced persons. They were looking for a new home and a place to preserve their culture and faith. The church became the center of their community, offering services in Latvian and hosting a variety of cultural events. But here’s something you might not know: One of the church bells originally belonged to the very first Latvian church built in North America! That church was located in Lincoln County, Wisconsin, and was dedicated in 1906. When that church was demolished, the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis received its bell as a testament to the continuing legacy of Latvian Lutherans in America.
